Shenali Rajaratnam recently visited the Global Society Institute at the Wälderhaus in Germany, following an earlier visit to the Institute’s location in Tarifa, Spain at the beginning of the year. Her meetings focused on shaping the future European engagement of Power of Women, the organisation she represents, and on strengthening the networks needed to support that work across the continent.
During the visit, Rajaratnam met with Rüdiger Kruse, Barbara Makowka, Beatrix Palt and Christoph Geisler to discuss how these connections could be further developed. The conversations addressed concrete next steps, follow-up meetings and future events, while also leading to agreements on closer collaboration with the Global Society Institute in both Hamburg and Tarifa.
Rajaratnam represents Power of Women, an initiative of We Are The Hope. According to the organisation, its work centres on empowerment and uniting women and girls through music and media, with the aim of promoting female leadership and fostering peace and well-being.
The organisation describes its vision as one in which women and girls are given the opportunity to step fully into leadership, and where their contributions are recognised and represented more fairly across society. It also places strong emphasis on collaboration, respect and social impact, presenting these principles as central to its approach. Power of Women states that it was launched on 22 February 2022 under the leadership of Shenali Rajaratnam, alongside Burchin Kurkcuoglu and Ashley Portillo.
The meetings marked a further step in building a stronger basis for international cooperation between the Global Society Institute and Power of Women, with a particular focus on dialogue, leadership and the development of wider European engagement.
