Nature Protection and Forest

Promoting ecological resilience, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility through collaborative forest and nature protection initiatives

GSI’s nature and forest protection projects strengthen the connection between people and their surrounding ecosystems, with a particular focus on children, youth, and urban communities. These initiatives support biodiversity, foster climate awareness, and advance a deeper understanding of the ecological foundations of sustainable societies.

GSI develops, coordinates, and accompanies environmental and forest protection projects that integrate scientific expertise, community engagement, and practical conservation work. This includes applying for and managing public and private funding, building cross-sector partnerships, and enabling cooperation between schools, NGOs, and governmental institutions.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) plays a central role across all activities. Through experiential, forest-based learning, citizen participation, and public awareness campaigns, GSI promotes forests as essential ecosystems and as living examples of sustainable development.

These efforts are carried out in close collaboration with SDW Hamburg (German Forest Protection Association, Hamburg branch), an important partner in advancing forest stewardship and environmental education. Together, GSI and SDW Hamburg work to strengthen ecological responsibility, empower communities, and contribute to environmental justice in both urban and rural contexts.
