Global Society Institute (GSI) announces that Sabrina Foerster, education lead at the institute in Tarifa, has been formally recognised as an official Global Schools Mentor through the United Nations Global Schools Mentorship Program.
As confirmed by the certificate of completion, Sabrina served as an official Global Schools Mentor from August 2025 to January 2026, supporting and encouraging Global Schools Advocates as they worked with primary and secondary schools to take action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The certificate was issued by the Global Schools Program, an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

The Global Schools Program is a primary and secondary education initiative of UN SDSN that supports schools, educators, and researchers with training, curriculum, and methodologies to integrate sustainable development into education. It also develops tools and resources to help education systems build more resilient and sustainable societies.
Within this framework, the Global Schools Advocates Program stands as a flagship initiative, a six-month training and advocacy programme for educators and school leaders working in primary and secondary schools globally. Official programme information states that the training includes 30+ lectures, original readings, and comprehensive assessments, designed to support practical implementation in schools.
SDSN’s information on the Advocates Program outlines a learning process focused on the SDGs and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), including action-based pedagogy, school-level implementation, and educator support through training structures and peer exchange.
This framework aligns closely with the aims of GSI’s Intercultural Dialogue and Education area, which promotes inclusive communication across cultures and disciplines and develops projects that strengthen societal resilience against populism, authoritarianism, and science denial, while advancing pluralism, critical thinking, and democratic values. GSI’s work in this area combines non-formal education, NGO capacity building, and knowledge exchange between academia and civil society through partner networks across Europe and the Mediterranean.
Sabrina’s recognition is not only a personal professional achievement, but also a strong reflection of the educational and civic values embedded in GSI’s work. Her mentoring contribution supports the development of educators and school communities working to embed sustainability, critical thinking, and informed participation in learning environments.
Global Society Institute congratulates Sabrina Foerster on this recognition and acknowledges her ongoing contribution to initiatives that promote inclusive, resilient, and democratic societies.
